Cutting Dead Weight

There comes a time every few months where we all go under a self-evaluation or “self-analysis.” We re-asses our life, our goals, current situation, as well as where we want to be. This “social spring cleaning” as I call it, provides an opportunity for me to get rid of the old, and welcome the new. With welcoming the new that inevitably means, getting rid of the old. The “old” pertaining to old friends a.k.a dead weight. Now when I say dead weight, that might seem a little harsh…but let’s be frank, We all have that handful of friends who don’t benefit or contribute to our aspirations in any way, shape, form, or fashion. Not to say that every friend you have, you should use to your benefit..but that’s exactly what I’m saying. I’m a firm believer that you are a by-product of the seven people you most associate yourself with, and if it were up to me, my seven closest friends would all be aspiring multi-moguls, street-smart hustlers, cultivated creatives, and junior business heads.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that sometimes your “long-time” friends, aren’t always going to be your “lifetime” friends and you have to come to terms with that. I need a friend who will inspire me to become the best version of myself that I can be. Do you want friends or motivators? Buddies, or teammates? All of the friends I have are beneficial to me, just as I am beneficial to them. Do dead tree branches surround you? It’s 2017, time to start using friendships advantageously; this is the year of progression and development. I want to surround myself with seeds of which are fruitful.
