Seeking Discomfort
FEAR
I don’t like the feeling of being afraid. Knowing that fear took over my thoughts, actions and emotions makes me so upset because nothing should have the power to stop me from doing what I want to do and living my best life.
SOLO TRAVELING
Traveling by yourself in my opinion is one of the greatest ways to seek discomfort because imagine yourself in a different country, where people speak a different language, and where you have no friends. Sounds scary right? Why in the world would someone want to make themselves uncomfortable? I am that person! I feel like, I personally grow in uncomfortable situations. It takes me out of my comfort zone. It allows me to sit with my thoughts, enjoy my own company, make new friends and learn and understand a different culture. When I start to feel too comfortable in my environment, I try to do at least 1 thing that gets me out of my comfort zone to teach me different lessons in life.
EAT, PRAY, LOVE
I started traveling by myself after watching Eat Pray Love. I was so intrigued by the character’s journey, how much she grew from the experience and how she navigated through foreign countries, and the feeling she felt once she got back home. I am easily influenced by things I watch and read, which is a good and bad thing because I have to really decipher what information I take in. But when I take my solo trips, it is mainly my time to pause on social media, read a book, meditate, pray, eat, laugh, and dance. My therapist once told me that some people know how to be by themselves but don’t know how to be with themselves.
LOVE
I want to truly understand and learn what it is to be with myself. I want to be so full, mind, body, and soul so that I will never have to seek happiness or validation from anyone. I want to sit with my thoughts and be able to quiet down the outer noise. I can proudly say that through my solo trips, I know how to be with myself. In fact, I have so much fun with myself. I dance, I get dolled up, I meditate, journal, eat and pray. I simply do things that make me happy and the feeling is very rewarding mentally. I feel good and rejuvenated.
I challenge everyone to seek discomfort.
